Permanent Make-Up FAQs - Golden Glow Aesthetics, Alton

We understand it can be a little daunting deciding whether to go ahead with an aesthetics treatment such as permanent make-up which is why we have put together these Frequently Asked Questions.  We hope this helps you in making your decision, but the best plan is to book in for a consultation so we can answer your questions, assess your suitability for treatment and explain the whole process.

People who benefit from permanent make-up include:

  • those who fear they are going to lose their eyebrows once they undergo chemotherapy (this treatment is suitable for people only before their cancer treatment begins);
  • individuals with underactive thyroids who are experiencing a thinning of their eyebrows;
  • people whose lips or brows are asymmetric or thin;
  • those with visual impairments or watery eyes;
  • older women whose lips have lost colour and definition and whose eyes and brows require definition,
  • people who are sensitive to make-up.

At Golden Glow Beauty Clinic in Alton, we will never go ahead with a treatment if we feel you will not get the results you desire.  Many factors can affect whether you are suitable for treatment and we explore some of these in our FAQs below.

Our highly trained specialist can create the perfect eyebrows, eyeliner and lips suited to you by carefully tattooing colour pigments into the dermal layer of the skin. The pigment will fade as the skin exfoliates so we recommend a colour boost at around 18 months. Most appointments take around 1-2 hours. We will let you know how much time your procedure will take at your complimentary consultation. Once we’ve mapped out how your permanent make-up is going to look and you are completely happy with the outcome, we can begin the process! We may also apply some topical anaesthetic on your skin before the treatment begins to minimise any discomfort. The colour applied will be around 50% darker for up to a week later and you may experience some flaking, swelling and redness a few days after your appointment, as well as some swelling and redness. This usually lasts a couple of days and is all part of the normal healing process.
Book in for a consultation at Golden Glow Beauty Salon in Alton where we will ask you some questions about your medical history and ask you to complete and sign a medical and consent form. You will also need to have a simple patch test at least 24 hours before your treatment to determine whether you have any allergies to the pigment we use. Permanent make-up can be unsuccessful on some skin types, such as very oily skin or large open pores – but this is something we can discuss during your consultation. If you have alopecia or are undergoing chemotherapy you may also experience uneven healing and poor colour retention. If you are pregnant or nursing, you will not be eligible for permanent cosmetics treatments.
The benefits of permanent make-up include:
  • You don’t have to waste time putting on make-up
  • You will look good and ready to go as soon as you wake up
  • Your make-up will stay in place whilst swimming, going to the gym or doing sports
  • If you are allergic to or sensitive to traditional make-up you can use permanent make-up instead
  • If you have a visual impairment or dexterity issue which prevents you from applying your own make-up we can do it for you and it will remain in place for up to three years.
How long your new look will last tends to vary from client to client, but usually permanent make-up lasts approximately 3 years.  Eyebrows tend to fade faster than eyes and lips.  Also, please note that medical conditions and medicines can cause pigment to fade faster.
The pigment will be applied to your skin using very fine needles from a specialist facial tattooing machine which works at a much lower frequency than a standard tattoo machine. The sensation will be like an electric toothbrush being held against your skin, so you will feel the vibration but shouldn’t feel any pain.
Adverse reactions are very rare, and the pigments we use are the highest grade. Our permanent make-up treatments conform to safety standards and our staff are highly trained. We use the best micro-pigmentation equipment including a new single use disposable sterile needle for each procedure to ensure your safety.
